Visit your local Fire Station:
Many Fire stations offer tours or demonstrations; call or drop in to find out what your local station offers. When we first made this Theme Day in 2010, my boys were 4 and 8. I drove them to the Firehouse to book a tour and they had time that day. Our firefighter was so friendly. He showed us around. And even hooked up my boys to a heart rate machine (see pictures which we glued in our Family Theme Day Scrapbook).
What can you find at your local library?

TOYS:
If your child has any toy fire trucks this theme day would be the perfect time to take them out and play together.

Water Brigade:
If the weather is nice make your own water brigade by giving each family member a bucket and then pass the water from bucket to bucket until a larger bucket/barrel/tub is full. How long does it take your family to fill it up? If you have a large group you can compete and see whose fire brigade fills up their bucket/barrel/tub first.
Obstacle Course:
Fire Fighters need to keep fit and often go through elaborate obstacle courses in full uniform. You don’t need the uniform or an elaborate obstacle course though, you can make your own with chairs and stools, or hoops and ropes and time your children. Then invite them to make up their own course to challenge their siblings or friends.
Field Trip:
Q: Why is a Dalmatian easily found during a game of hide and seek?
A: Because he’s always spotted.
MUSICAL FIRE SAFETY:
Play some music for your children and when you stop the music they must STOP DROP AND ROLL. You can do a variation as well have your children CRAWL LOW AND GO when the music stops.
Try some of these activities to make your family Safety review even more fun!
