LUNCH:

Animal Pasta:

My kids always loved canned pasta in tomato sauce as a special treat.  Our favourite brand has one with animal shaped pasta so that's what we served for this Theme Day.  You may be able to find specialty shaped pasta at local stores or online.  For instance, I found these (but I cannot speak to the quality as we have not tried them) from the United States: worldofpastabilities.com/products/zoo-animals-pasta

SNACK TIME

WHAT DO ANIMALS EAT?

Different types of animals eat different types of food. There are three basic categories: carnivores eat meat, herbivores eat plants, and omnivores eat both plants and meat. An insectivore is a carnivorous plant or animal that eats insects.

As you learn about different animals take note of which category of eater they are. Check here fore more information: What Do Animals Eat? Carnivores Vs Omnivores Vs Herbivores & More

LUNCH:

Pigs in a Blanket:

These are easy to make. They are just Hotdogs wrapped in refrigerated crescent roll dough. While your oven heats (check your dough package for temperature), open the crescent dough and separate dough into triangles.  Cut each triangle into three triangles.  Place a small smoked sausage or a  cut-up piece of hot dogs on the shortest side of one of smaller dough triangles. Then you roll it all the way up. Place the little pigs on a parchment or silicon lined baking sheet with the point side of the rolled dough facing down. Bake according the dough package until golden brown. Let them cool before eating.

VARIATION: Use tofu or vegetarian hot dogs if your family does not eat meat.

Animal Crackers:

These actually taste like cookies but are called crackers for some reason. Whatever the name, they are tasty treats shaped like zoo or circus animals, such as lions, tigers, elephants, and bears.

PEAR RABBITS:

 Here is an herbivore snack.

Ingredients: Canned pears, raisins, cheese, lettuce leaf.

Step 1: Lay out a lettuce leaf onto a plate.
Step 2: Place a pear half onto the leaf as the rabbit’s body.
Step 3: Arrange the raisins as the nose and two eyes on the pear.
Step 4: Cut out two rectangular shapes out of cheese for the bunny’s ears and arrange on top of the pear.
Step 5: Enjoy!

DESSERT:

Animal Cookies:

Make some some sugar cookie dough (search online or in your favourite recipe book) and use animal cookie cutters to make a delicious menagerie. We used simple chocolate icing on forest animal cookies.

Yummy!
